VirusBurst Trojan Horse
VirusBurst is a rogue anti-virus program that uses a Trojan horse to stealth install its adware program, which in turn displays a taskbar balloon pop-up warning of a critical system error that doesn't actually exist. Its intention is to scare the user into believing they're infected by a virus, and thereby purchase VirusBurst to remove it. The browser homepage may also be changed to an unwanted website, known as a browser hijack. Browser Hijackers and software that install without permission are outlawed under the US I-SPY Act. The location of the VirusBurst makers is unknown, but they're unlikely to be found in a country that has modern privacy laws. VirusBurst is a rebadged and slightly altered version of a rogue anti-spyware program known as SpywareQuake.

The Browser Hijacker component of VirusBurst installs a BHO (Browser Helper Object) in Internet Explorer. This BHO consumes excessive system resources, slows down your internet connection and will stop you from changing the browser's default homepage.
